LOVE & SORROW

The LOVE & SORROW collection is named after Ukrainian traditional belief of two colors: red and black. These colors represent two major feelings which often come along and balance each other. It was believed that these feelings were some of the strongest emotions that a woman could have. A thin line between a joy of love and a sorrow of separation can be visualized and represented in these two basic colors. Ukrainian folklore is rich in stories of "love and sorrow". This colorful combination is so much recognizable in Ukrainian ornamental art, clothes and home designs that it became a part of Ukrainian cultural heritage.

Inspired by these true feelings and aiming to promote Ukrainian culture and traditions I created this collection of original paintings using Petrykivka painting technique.
